Betrothal gifts (sính lễ) are offerings requested by the bride’s family and presented by the groom’s family as part of the marriage proposal.
Traditional wedding gifts often included a tray of betel nuts and betel leaves (mâm cau – cơi trầu), lacquered and gilded offering boxes (tráp sơn son thếp vàng), trays of silk fabrics, etc., which are recreated and displayed in this exhibition.

Vietnamese folks introduce the meaning of several characteristic betrothal gifts such as trầu cau (betel nut and betel leaf), wine, tea, and others. To bring visitors closer to the spiritual life behind sính lễ, we have also collected folk verses and proverbs from the oral tradition, accompanied by illustrated depictions of the gifts.
